Helen and I shot a recent wedding at a gorgeous spa hotel in Walsall for the wonderful Katy and Paul. I used to go to school with Katy so it was good to catch up from all those years ago, and an honour to capture their special day. We had a great time photographing Katy and Paul, whose enthusiasm shone through in all of the photos – and whose family and friends were welcoming and easy to work with – thanks all!
The day started at Paul’s parents’ farm – a short distance from the wedding venue and located in a beautiful part of the black country borders. We met the bridal party, who were in good spirits if a touch nervous(!) before capturing some preparation shots and some of the lovely details of the dress and other wedding related items (Helen insisted we incorporate the stand-alone bath into a shot of Katy’s shoes – and it came out brilliantly I hope you’ll agree!). After capturing some great bridal prep shots we went to the wedding venue where the groom and his best man had stayed the previous night – can’s of energy drink were flowing like the previous night’s wine and the guys were preparing for the day ahead – so we grabbed some good groom prep shots before setting up and waiting for the horse and carriage…
After the arrival of the horse and carriage (and some of the younger generation got a free ride around the grounds!), we got some quick family shots before moving into the venue for the imminent ceremony. The ceremony itself was fantastic, and the love Katy and Paul share for each other was clear to see for everyone. We then moved into the wedding gardens to capture their first moments as man and wife, and to get some family photographs for posterity – before moving back inside to start the party!
After a wonderful 5-course meal the speeches began, a very healt-felt father-of the-bride speech went down well, followed expertly by the groom, an usher and brother of the groom, a geographically distant relative (who made for some great shots due to his animated nature!) and the brilliantly entertaining best man. After the cake cutting, people mingled and caught up whilst the room was prepared, and finally for helen and I – the first dance commenced – where i am glad to say i got some of my favourite first dance shots!
All in all it was a wonderful day, and Helen and I had a great day of shooting and meeting people – we were made to feel so welcome, and the hapiness and love that filled the day shines through in the final images. I have put up most of the shots for family and friends to see, so I hope you enjoy looking through them!
Thanks for looking,
